“I have to say that it has been one of the most professional, enjoyable and creative extra curricular activities that the school ever engaged in. I highly recommend them”

We are delighted to have been back in Burnchurch National School for a 2nd year.

We thank the Principal, Staff, The Board of Management and the Parents Association.

We hope the children enjoyed the experience and that they had as much fun the 2nd time around.

The show was staged in Burchurch School on Wednesday 17th December 2008

It was a wonderful show and a wonderful day

Here is a week by week breakdown of what the children learned and achieved.

Here we go again for a 2nd year in Burnchurch National school and it was great to see everyone again. The children were very excited to see us and it is so different when you have worked with the children before because they know what to expect in The FunkyKids and they look forward to it. It was great to see Mrs. O Riordan back at the helm as she was absent when we completed the last term. We got to work immediately with the children and all shyness is non existent in this school. All the children started with the 1st of their preparation work for their costume and they all started their 1st song and dance routine. Polly also arrived into the small children workshop and caused huge disruption to which the children loved. I t was also great to see a child wearing her old FunkyKids T-shirt to school as a surprise for us. It was a lovely thought.

Sorry that we do not have pictures for you yet but hopefully next week some pictures should be up on the page. We are now starting to settle down in Burnchurch and we are continuing with our imagination and self confidence games with the children. The small children got to see "Polly Pecker" in her new dress and they also got to see how naughty she is also. All the children are now learning their 2nd song and they all are progressing well. All the children are still doing the preparation work for their costume and will continue to do so next week as well. For this years show we have a Santa's, zombies and a great Christmas finale but their is a lot to do before the 10 weeks are complete. So far the children are fantastic.

Everything is going according to plan in Burnchurch school and the children are performing very well even at this early stage. All the children progressed to their 3rd song and the Christmas songs are coming along great and they should be very entertaining in the show. All the children completed their preparation work for their costumes so next week is a mammoth week for the children as they get to start their costumes. This is where the children own imagination kicks in as they are allowed to design their own t-shirts with the materials they will be working with. For the next few weeks we will have little game time as there is now a lot to do. Well done to all the children.

How many more bones do we need Hi Mammy  Hello Everybody

The workshops are going very well in Burnchurch and we are pleased with the progress. All the children performed on the sad and happy mats with the younger children been specially entertaining. This week all the children started their costumes and it was a big week because up until now all the children spent the last 3 weeks preparing. Great imagination was used and all the t-shirts are individual and excellent. We have small Santa's and zombies in this show. The children will spend the next 2 weeks finishing their costumes and from then they will be making their Christmas scene. The singing and dancing is coming along very well with all classes with just 1 song to learn. We will be introducing the keyboards from next week so the children will be singing live and not to a cd. This will be more challenging for the children. Next week is the halfway mark. Where are the weeks going.

A lot of bones  Hi Santa

It is hard to believe that we are now at the halfway stage in Burnchurch School. The children performed to the keyboards this week for the 1st time and they all did extremely well. It is harder for the children to sing live to the keyboard as they have no melody and words to follow as they would with a cd. All the children completed their 2nd week of their costumes and great imagination is being used in their creation. We did not have much time for games this week as their was a lot to be done  but we will return to the games at a later stage. All the children are now learning their 3rd song and dance routines and they are all well into learning their Christmas songs for the show. We are now on a Halloween break in the school so to you all in Burnchurch - Happy Halloween

We had a fantastic week in Burnchurch again this week and great progress is been made by all the children. All the children are now learning their final song and dance routines with the older children now learning our version of Do-a-dear from The sound of Music. This is a very different and lively approach to the song and very different to the original and it is one of our favorite songs at the moment and it is great fun to perform. All the children continued to work on their costumes with the older boys now working on the trousers of their costume. Great imagination is been used and we are delighted with the effort the children are making. Next week the children will spend their final week at the costumes.

The children are progressing very well and all the children have now completed all their singing and dance routines. There is still a lot to be done though. All the classes got to work on the Christmas backdrop this week and it is looking very well. This is an image of Christmas that is being made from 100s of pieces of material that will make up an image that will be hung during the last scene of the show. All the children are contributing to this scene and the older children came in to help with the younger children this week so teamwork was great and evident. The younger children got to say hello to the very bold Polly Pecker this week and all the children had great fun trying to ring the magic bell that is being used in the bell routine in the show. Denis also got to try a new mime for the children that we think the children enjoyed. We now need to get the school performing their scenes in front of one another as this will give the children and staff an idea of how the show is progressing and well help the children to concentrate more. Well done to all.

With the show getting closer every week we had a very busy day in Burnchurch school this week. The older children completed their Christmas scene with great imagination and team work because we didn't t think they would and then they rehearsed their song and dance routines. We then brought brought the two workshops together so the small children got to perform for the older children for the first time and they did extremely well. We also got to perform the Christmas songs with the whole school so it was great to finally see these songs come together. The teachers were great this week also to bring the two workshops together and from next week the entire school will be rehearsing together as we get closer to the show. This will be a great time for all as we will all finally see the whole show come together

This week we had our 1st full rehearsal with all the children in Burnchurch this morning. All the children got to see what the other classes are doing in the show and their was great excitement and encouragement in the school from all the children. All the children performed brilliantly and the children and staff are now working very hard in preparation for their show. Next week is one of our final rehearsals so we will be tweaking the final touches to a great show.

We had our 2nd full rehearsal with the children this week and the children were excellent. We have only one more rehearsal with the children in preparation for the show next week and hopefully that will be with full lights and sound. We had great fun with the children dancing through "the ages" with the children dancing waltz, Charleston, jive, ballet and modern. Mrs O Riordan gave the children a lovely display of ballet dancing and we all had great fun. Also the two children that were lucky to be picked to perform the mime are doing a great job and will be very entertaining in the show. The children begged Mrs O Riordan for no homework and after singing their pleas to her she agreed much to the delight of the children. We are looking forward to next week and the parents will enjoy this years FunkyKids Club show in Burnchurch School.

We had a very hectic week in Burnchurch school this week. On Monday we set up our stage with full lights and sound. On Tuesday we then had the last of our full rehearsal's with all the children using the full light and sound system. The children were very excited and also patient as their was the final preparation to the shows to be made. The rehearsal went very well but every one was anxious and waiting for the show to take place. On Wednesday we had our show and it was a wonderful day. The parents were treated to mince pies and mulled wine on arrival to the school and everyone was in great form. The children then got dressed in costume and got their make up applied and it was a sight to behold as we do not get to see the children in costume until the show. The school was full with people attending the show so at 12.30pm we started and boy what a show it was. The children were just fantastic and they performed to a wonderful audience that clapped, cheered and joined in with the singing. Mark and Alanah were great at performing the mime and we all had a surprise when Mrs O Riordan introduced "Bob the Builder" to the small children's scene. He was actually the foreman who was on site building the school extension. Every one had a job to do and the school was a hive of activity. After the show we presented the children with their FunkyKids Club Certificates of Excellence to great applause. Then the FunkyKids Club was all over. The children tucked into some well deserved treats later.

We had a great time in Burnchurch school this term. The children and staff were just fantastic and a joy to work with. Show day is a truly magical day with great Christmas feel which adds to the whole occasion. Thank you all so much and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2010.
