“I have to say that it has been one of the most professional, enjoyable and creative extra curricular activities that the school ever engaged in. I highly recommend them”

We were delighted to be back in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál for a 3rd time.

We thank the Board of Management, The Principal, The Staff and the parents for having the FunkyKids in the school.

The Show "A Sparkling Christmas" was staged in Goresbridge Hall on December the 8th, 10th and 11th.

It was a great evenings entertainment.

Thank you all for your support.

We hope the children had a brilliant time for the past 10 weeks.

Here is a weekly update of what the children learned and achieved in this workshop.

It is wonderful to be back in the school for a 3rd time. We are introducing a brand new show in the school which includes Elvis, astronauts and 13' high puppet's. We played some role playing games with all the classes and all the classes started their preparation work for their costumes and they all started their 1st song and dance routines. It was a great day and a great start and we will all have a great time.

This week the children continued with their preparation work for their costume and also continued with learning their song and dance routines. The younger children got to meet "Polly Pecker" and they had some fun with her while she chased them around the floor. The older children had a go with "Chinese Whisper" and also tried to reuse the prince es from the dragon. These games are good fun and they encourage the child's listening and speaking skills. Ms O Mullanes class also got their 1st glimpse of their puppet's so it was exciting.

Some of the classes are now finished their preparation work so they will be starting their costume next week. All the classes are progressing well with their singing and dancing routines. All the children also acted out Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is very entertaining and challenging for the children as they instantly have to act the part as the story is being read. We have also decided to submit Ms. Lambert's and Ms. Edmond's class for application to THE LATE LATE TOY SHOW. These 2 classes are doing Nutting for Christmas in the show so we decided to have a go for the toy show thanks to the principal and staff. We will rehearse with the children as much as we can for the next few days and hopefully we will record the piece next Tuesday. Ms O Mullanes class got to rehears with their puppet's for the 1st time and they look fantastic. They now have the mammoth task of decorating these puppet's. Ms Culletons class are doing an excellent job on the ABBA remix as are Ms. Farraghers class with their moon piece. The children in the school are fantastic and are a joy t work with every week.

We are very pleased with the progress being made in the school and the children are a joy to work with as always. This week we recorded the piece with M. Edmond's and Ms. Lambert's classes for the Late Late Toy Show. It was a hectic morning and we had fabulous untidy, scruffy children that sang their hearts out for the recording. You will never know if we will be taking the trip to Dublin but hopefully fingers crossed. This week 3 of the classes started their shirt's for their costume. Mrs. Doyle's class got to marble paint their t-shirt while Mrs. Farrell's class got to stick their Xmas tree to their t-shirt. Ms. Farraghers class also started their astronaut costume and they are looking very well. Ms. O Mullanes class worked in teams of four to design the giant puppet's faces and great imagination was used. Ms. Culluton's class also did great work with a lot of glitter on their ABBA letters. We also tried some of the songs live to the keyboards and the songs are beginning to take shape. Well done to all the children and staff. We played the blind game with the older children and the junior children got to play with "Polly" and "Olly"

It is hard to believe that we are now at the halfway stage of the 10 week program. We are delighted with the progress made and again it was a week whee a lot was achieved by the children. Ms. Edmond's class go to work with a lot of glitter and glue. Ms. Culletons class finally got to start their ABBA costume and they look fantastic. Ms. O Mullanes class gave their giant 13' puppets hands and hair. Mrs. Farrell's gals did an excellent job of decorating their Christmas trees. Mrs. Doyle's class marble painted the back of their t-shirts. Ms. Farraghers class continued to foil their costumes and Ms. Edmond's class got to stick Santa an their t-shirts with the help of 6th class. All the singing and dancing routines are making great progress. The children got to see some of Denis magic that he does not perform very well but it was great fun. We will be introducing the keyboards shortly. This means that the children will have to sing the songs themselves without he help of a CD.

The children are now well and truly on their way t staging a great show for you all at Christmas. All the children have now nearly completed their costumes and the imagination and colour used is fantastic. The giant puppets have now faces, hands and are starting to wear some clothes. The ABBA costumes are also looking fantastic and the children have really captured the ABBA age and look with their costume. Our astronauts are also taking shape and the junior infants can be very proud of the Santa Claus costume also. We used different techniques this time in the make and do such as marble painting the t- shirts and we also worked a lot with glitter to create different effects and we are delighted with the effort the children made and with the results that the children achieved. Next on the agenda is to get the big screens painted and we hope to get these completed when we return after the Halloween break. The children also played some more self confidence games this week and the Junior infants did a fantastic job of welcoming the very shy "Olly the monkey" into the class. On Friday we arrived at the school dressed up to join in with the children for their Halloween party and we also had a disco for an hour with all the children and it was brilliant fun. Working with the children in this school is a pleasure  and the staff are excellent. Thank you all.

This week we moved to the Abbey Hall and all the classes painted their scenes for the shows. It takes great Patience and teamwork for the children to paint the scenes and they all did a fantastic job. On some of the scenes the children dipped their hands in paint to create borders and other signed their names using drawings. Great imaginations were used. Scene day is a great fun day and is always a pleasure and these children were no exception. You will enjoy what the children have painted this year with a lot of well known characters to be seen.

Nearly all of the classes have now completed their costumes and we are delighted with the results. We tried a lot of new techniques for this show and the results are fantastic. You will all be very proud of the children when you see the costumes that they have made. We are now into very serious rehearsals for the shows with all the classes doing a lot of singing and dancing this week. We also got to use the masks that Ms Edmond's class will be using and it will take a lot of practice for the children to get used to the puppets. Mrs.Doyle's class also got to see what some of the other classes were doing in the show and there was great excitement. We have only two weeks left now to rehearse and we hope it will be a wonderful show.

As all of the classes have now completed their costumes we were able to take time out with the children and play some more of our self confidence games. We also rehearsed our song and dance routines and the children's performance is growing stronger every week. Next week the class's will be coming together to rehearse in front off one another so the children will get to see what the other classes have been doing for the last number of weeks. It will also be a challenge for the children to perform in front of other children so the real preparation is now been made in the final run up to the shows. The staff in the school are fantastic and we appreciate their commitment to The FunkyKids workshops.
