We are delighted to have been back in Wandesforde National School for a 2nd year.
We thank the Principal, Staff, The Board of Management and the Parents Association.
We hope the children enjoyed the experience the 2nd time around.
The show "Wandesfright" was staged in Wandesforde Hall Castlecomer on Monday 23rd 2009
It was a fantastic show and a memorable evening for everyone..
Here is a week by week breakdown of what the children learned and achieved.
It was great to be back in Wandesforde again and it was great to see everyone again. We were introduced to the new teacher that is now in the school and we are looking forward to working with the new teacher for the next 10 weeks. We needed no introduction to the children as we worked with them all last year so after explaining what the children will be doing in the show we got straight to work. All the children started their imagination games and all did very well. The younger children were delighted to see to the very bold "Polly Pecker" again and had a great laugh because she got bold the minute we took her out of her box. All the children then started the 1st of their song and dance routines and all the children started the 1st of their preparation work on their costumes. We have teddy bears, ghosts and zombies in this show so the children will have a lot to do and learn in the next few weeks as it is a more challenging show than last year. It was a wonderful start to the 10 week term looking forward to the next 10 weeks. Well done to all.
We are all starting to settle down now in Wandesforde School and we had a great week with all the children. The teachers are a great help and being very encouraging to the children. The older children continued with their imagination games and they were given scenes to act out and perform to which is very entertaining to watch and challenging for the children. They also played their teamwork games. The younger children got to play their confidence games with "Polly" and we had great fun with "Polly" chasing after the children. All the children rehearsed their 1st song and dance routines with some of the classes having gone on to their 2nd song and dance routines. All the children continued with their preparation work for their costumes. We hope to finally have pictures from the workshops next week. Well done to all.
We had a great day in Wandesforde school this week and the children are making good progress. All the children are now onto their 2nd song and dance routines. "Polly Pecker" was brought out to the younger children to help them with their confidence games and the older children played the "blind" game.
This game involves teamwork and the children have to give clear and proper instructions to each other to achieve in the game. The smaller children are performing a great version of Bob the Builder, Mrs. Tracey's class are ghosts and Ms.Denneh'ys are zombies. The smaller children nearly have their teddy's complete for their shirts and the older children have their preparation work complete so all the children will be starting their costumes next week. Ms.Denney's class also started the great dragon that will be used in the show. He will be a 40' dragon that will be appearing in the show. Well dine to all.
This week the children started their t-shirts for their costumes. It is a wonderful sight watching the children make their costumes as they get to create their own design with the shapes they were cutting for the last 3 weeks. Great imagination was used. All the children are now learning their final song and dance routines. Mrs. Tracey's class also got to practice with the bells that they will be using in their scene in the show. The children also got to use the "magic bell" that Mrs Tracey was the only person that figured out how to ring it. The children got to see some magic that was performed by Denis. Ms. Wilson's class got to finish their teddies and next week the children will be sticking these to their t-shirts.
We are now at the half way mark in Wandesforde School and the weeks are just flying bye. This week all the children performed to the keyboards which meant they are now singing on their own and not to a cd and the children sang and performed extremely well . However there is still a lot to be done to get the show ready for staging. All the children continued with their costumes and they are looking fantastic. There is still one more week allocated for the children to complete their costumes. We also continued to rehearse the bell scene with the children and they are getting very good at their bell ringing. Mrs Tracey's class have made great progress so we are giving this class an extra song to learn and perform in the show. Wandesforde is a fantastic school with great teachers and brilliant children. You are all going to love the children's performance this year for their show. Next week the children are taking a break to paint their scenes for the show.
This week we took a break from singing and dancing and all the classes painted their scenes for the show. It was a fantastic team effort by every child to get these huge scenes completed and it was a wonderful day. The children were patient and helpful. The children also dipped their hands in paint to make a border on the scenes and they do look fantastic. These scenes will be hung on the stage as the children are performing their show and the make a great visual impact to the overall show. Well don to the children and the teachers in Wandesforde School.
We are all now working very hard with the children as there is only 3 weeks left to the show. All the costumes are now complete and they look fantastic. Next week for the final week of make and do the all the children in every class will be decorating the dragon that is appearing in the show. He will be 30' long and has yet to be given a name and he is being mastered by 5th and 6th class. They got their 1st trial run with him today but over the next 3 weeks the children will get plenty of practice. We played the sound games with the younger children. The children in Mrs. Tracey's class got to use their face masks for the 1st time today also. We also played a self confidence game with the children just to see how they are all progressing. From now on we will be just rehearsing the song and dance routines as the children still have a bit to go.
The children have now completed all their make and do and they spent their final make and do this week with all the children decorating the dragon which is called "Rufus" that will be appearing in the show. Ms. Dennehys class have made the head for the dragon and when it is completed this dragon is 30 foot long. The children took time out to dance to different songs this week and it was great fun. All the children took part in the last scenario game of "Snow White". Next week all the children are coming to together to rehearse in front of one another and this is a great time as all the classes will finally get to see what the other children have been doing in the FunkyKids Club for the last 10 weeks. It will also make the children more confident as they will now be performing to other children outside of their class - well done to all.
This week we had a brilliant fun week in Wandesforde school. All the children came to rehears this week so they all finally got to see what the other classes were doing in this years show. All the children performed very well and we got to run through the show without any issues. We also got to see Ms. Dennehys and Denis mime and we got to see Ms. Wilsons and Mrs. Treacys mimes in the show and they were great fun to watch. The older children also practiced with Rufus the dragon which we hope to complete next week. We also had good fun dressing up the teachers in different costumes and a great laugh was had by all - well done teachers. Next week we are having 2 full rehearsal with the whole school in preparation for the show on Monday week
We are spending 2 days in the school this week to complete our rehearsals for the show on Monday night. We had great rehearsals in Wandesforde this week and the show is really coming together. On Thursday we had great fun again and we took time out to dance with the children which was great fun. On Friday morning we rehearsed in the hall were the show is being staged. This is to get the children familiar with the surroundings where the show is being staged and it will also sort out any remaining issues we have to stage the show. On Sunday we are erecting the stage and lights and the children will have a full rehearsal on Monday morning in time for their show in the evening. Well done we are proud of you all.
On Sunday we set up our stage and all the equipment in Wandesforde hall and we had everything ready for the children to start their final rehearsal on Monday morning. Thank Mrs.Tracey for the cookies they were a God send. On Monday the children spent the entire day rehearsing for their show which was taking place at 7.00 in the evening. The rehearsals went very well and we were very pleased with our efforts for the day.
At 5.45 the 1st of the children arrived back into the school to have their make up applied and from then on it was non stop to get all the children face make up applied before start time. It was a wonderful sight in the school to see all the children arriving in their costume and to see their face make up applied. Their was great excitement from all the children and finally all the parents started to arrive for the show. It is a wonderful community event when you see so many parents bringing goodies for the adults and children to eat after the show. At 7.00pm the show started to a full house and it was a wonderful evenings entertainment. All the children performed so well. The mimes that the teachers acted in were very funny and Rufus the dragon was a fantastic sight.l The audience were just excellent and sang the songs along to the children. The show flew and it was over before we knew where we were but that was a sign of how entertaining it was. When it was all over we were proud to present the children with their certs and we all had a cup of tea. There were a few small tears from ourselves, the staff and children when it was all over.
We want to thank the Principal, the teachers, the rest of the staff and the children for a truly wonderful 10 week term in Wandesforde School. The staff were a joy to work with and a pleasure to get to know. There is a very warm and welcoming feeling to this school and it is a wonderful school community that is a credit to the Principal. We will miss the fun and the chats in the staff room and we look forward to working with you all again in 2011.
God Bless and thanks
